I love being in front of cameras and modeling, singing, (and slightly acting) I%26#039;ve done quite a plays and took a few singing %26amp; acting classes. I already have 2 professional headshots, one body shot and a resume made. My family is pretty poor so I can%26#039;t afford really expensive classes and stuff though. What should I do next?

Wooden clarinet??
I am in 7th grade and currently have a plastic clarinet. I want to upgrade to a wooden clarinet soon. Where is a good place to get a (used) wooden clarinet that is decent. I have heard that a pawn shop is bettter than the Internet. Also what is a normal price for one.
Wooden clarinet??
A cheap price on the internet is around $200. A pawn shop might have some cheap prices, but you have to be really careful and make sure the clarinet is still playable and working well enough. A good way to upgrade to a wooden clarinet, would be to rent one out at a music shop and see how well you like it. Good luck!
Wooden clarinet??
I don%26#039;t know about clarinet prices, but you should only get new instruments online. It is very bad to buy used instruments and string instruments (lower-end guitars are fine) online, because you don%26#039;t know what you%26#039;re getting for your money...
Tina is correct in pointing out that for used instruments, you should be extra careful in trying them out to make sure they work. In particular, make sure there are no stuck keys and the mouthpiece is fine, no stuck reeds etc. To this end, you really should visit a shop, be it a pawnshop or a music shop.
Reply:Hi Kate. Looking for a nice wood model clarinet? Actually, a pawn shop is no better than the internet if you do not know what you are looking for but at a pawn shop, at least you can hold the instrument in your hand and examine it first hand. There are lots of things you already are familiar with. You know what the pads are suppose to look like and the condition they must be in to make the instrument seat well.... no leaks. One thing you must do is take your mouthpiece and a broken in reed with you when you go looking for a clarinet. Put the horn together and play the notes chromatically from the lowest to the highest to make sure there are no leaks. It will be hard, if not possible to detect a crack in the wood of the body or barrel of the instrument, but if there is one, that is absolutely an expensive but doable repair. Finally, buy a brand name instrument. First on the list and one that directors recommend is the Buffet E-11 or C13 or R13. The E-11 will be the most reasonably priced. Three others that are reliable and well made are the Normandy 4, Yamaha 32, and Selmer 300 models. Check the pawn shops and expect to pay from between $150.00 to $599.00 - depending on the pawn shop and the condition of the horn. Also, have your parents check on the internet Craig%26#039;s List site. It is a classified site and there is usually one in every large city so you can buy locally if you find sonething interesting. Hope that helps and keep up your clarinet study. Very important and you will have loads of fun in high school.
Reply:A pawn shop is better than the internet in that you can actually see, touch, and maybe even play what you%26#039;re getting. A nice wooden clarinet is the E11 by Buffet. Buffet is a really high quality brand (I have a B12 from them, third chair friend has the E11, and first chair buddy has a R13). However, the E11 can be $1,000 if it%26#039;s brand new. You can always get it used for around $700 - $500.That%26#039;s supposed to be a student model, so you have to be reasonable. Instruments don%26#039;t come cheap. Good ones, that is.
Be careful and be aware of your future plans. Do you plan to be in marching band? If so, you CANNOT have a wooden clarinet, at least on the field. Field shows are held outside, as are parades, and you do NOT want your wooden clarinet exposed to the elements. Do not sell your plastic clarinet if you plan on being in marching band in high school (I%26#039;ve got to tell you, marching band is really fun, so don%26#039;t discount it).
If you do plan on playing in higher bands throughout high school and possibly even through college, though, you will need the resonance and fullness of a wooden clarinet. For us, there is no way someone can get into wind ensemble (the highest concert band) with a plastic clarinet. So if you are pretty good and you really do think that you want to be in band for much of your life, go for a wooden one.
I can tell you this: don%26#039;t be afraid to check out your local music stores. The instruments there may cost more than you plan on spending, but tell the guy assisting you the problem. He may give you a super discount. Make sure you%26#039;re able to play a bit on your clarinet before you purchase it. You do not want to buy a faulty clarinet from a store with a crooked refund policy. Because you are making a somewhat lofty investment in your instrument, make sure you can play it before you buy it. You may need to buy a mouthpiece at the store, but they%26#039;re not that expensive (some are around $20).
Good luck, and I hope you find what you%26#039;re looking for! :)
Reply:I have bought plenty of great instruments on eBay and bought that at a substantial savings. My favorite is a pre-WWII clarinet in rosewood that I paid less than $200 for and another $200 in the shop. I have a vintage CG Conn from eBay that played sweet right out of the mail - for under $100, just needed some oil.
That%26#039;s the key consideration - whether buying online, at a pawn shop, at a garage sale, etc... expect to spend another $200 on the instrument getting it serviced and padded after you get it.
The real key when shopping for the instrument is not whether it%26#039;s in playing condition but whether it%26#039;s complete and undamaged. A cracked clarinet is worthless but a clarinet that needs new pads isn%26#039;t such a big repair.
If you%26#039;re buying online and can%26#039;t see it first, make sure you have a return agreement if you find the instrument is not what the seller says (ie: it has cracks or isn%26#039;t complete) since many sellers online don%26#039;t know what they have.
That they don%26#039;t know what they have gives you an extreme advantage over them. You can get a Selmer Paris series 10 (a very very good clarinet) for a reasonable price because some sellers associate them with Selmer USA. You can get a really nice Noblet Paris for cheapness - because most sellers never heard of it. Same with the Leblanc Paris. It%26#039;s hard to find an R13 for a good price because some people are looking for those everyday.
Don%26#039;t shy too much from buying online - just expect that you%26#039;ll have to put some more money into it when you get it and consider that in your pricing.
%26quot;normal%26quot; price for a really good clarinet is $1000 plus. New price on some of the best is over $3000.

Where can I find good Open Mic in Houston?
I recently moved to Houston and where I previously lived I performed at weddings and funerals and such. I%26#039;d really like to keep performing but as I have a full time job can%26#039;t do it professionally anymore. I%26#039;d like to find somewhere I can sing (I play guitar/trumpet but Id rather just sing) for fun. I mostly sing things like Josh Groban and Micael buble
Where can I find good Open Mic in Houston?
i would check the weekly circulars that come out on thursdays in the houston chronicle. it has all the houston nightlife and hard to find happenings such as open mic nights and such

You need to play in bars and clubs and get a record deal, then release an album and then you can get a manager who will book you at larger venues across the U.S.A. Also, your band has to be REALLY good.

Guitar help?
how do i play this from a tab.
13 11 9
------------
11 9 7
the 13 matches up with 11, then 11 with 9, then 9 with 7...
so i understand for that first note i play one string in the 13th fret while playing the other string in the 11th fret, but what about the one in between? i%26#039;d kno to palm mute it if it was an X but its just blank. wtf!
Guitar help?
That middle string should be marked with an X, it%26#039;s a string mute not a palm mute. Basically you just use your pointer finger to press down on the note on the 11th fret and at the same time use that finger to mute the middle string. Make sense?
Guitar help?
Hold the pick with your Index finger and thumb and play the 11, then with your middle finger play the 13, or use your left hand (assuming you play right handed, if not then use your right hand) to cover the string enough so it wont sound, but not so little that it will sound a harmonic.

How do i get into RSAMD?
I%26#039;m 15 years old and female and I%26#039;ve just sat my Standard Grade Music (Scottish equivalent of GCSE) and am expected to get a Grade 1 (highest mark). I sing as my main instument. I%26#039;m doing Higher Music next year and I hope to do Advanced Higher the year after that. After school I would like to go to RSAMD to do either Music or Education of Music, and I hope to be a Music Teacher if not a musician.
Does anyone know what kind of standard I need to be at to stand a chance of getting into RSAMD?
Also, do you know what other courses are available in Scotland which are similar ?
Thanks for your help.
How do i get into RSAMD?
You need to be a good singer?
How do i get into RSAMD?
At least Grade 8 Associated Board (distinction) on your main instrument/voice.
If you apply for music you would be taking the BMus course - this can also be taken at universities where there is less emphasis on performing and a wider variety of subjects studied e.g. history of music.
You can also take an MA or a specific teaching course.
The following links are very useful:

- RSAMD official website with all the information you need about applying and what is required of you at the audition.
http://www.rsamd.ac.uk/studying/apply_mu...
- the specific page that tells you about the courses on offer and gives information about open days
You should also read their prospectus which can be found on the webpage for up to date information.
Hope this helps: if you have any more specific questions just ask as I am about to apply for uni and conservoitres so should know everything you need to know!

Getting Discovered...?
Ok, I%26#039;ve seen other questions like this but I think I%26#039;m safe to ask it in MY own: Does searching for Acting/Dancing Agents in the yellow pages(phone book) in your city or a city near you any good? I mean I know Shia LaBeouf was discovered that way, but he lived in Cali.
I live in Cleveland, OH and the only place I could think of calling for Agents, Dancing or Acting, is Columbus and Cincinnati. And if I do I have to %26quot;get out there%26quot; and display what I can do...how would I push myself to do it because I%26#039;m on the shy side....Well Youtube help at all?
I need help...Seriously, from someone who can help and answer most of what I%26#039;ve asked above %26gt;.%26lt; Lol please and thanks!
Getting Discovered...?
Well - what CAN you do? If you are too shy to %26quot;get out there%26quot; - then why are you asking about finding an agent? For what purpose? As a performing arts teacher for over 30 years (yup, that%26#039;s my Lifetime Achievement Award hanging%26#039; there on the wall . . ) I would strongly advise you to get SOMETHING together - take classes, work up some monologues, get into productions that display what you can do. It sounds like your agent search is premature - from what you have WRITTEN. Could be you are a monster talent - but you only write about insecurity and shyness. I would not pursue anyone from the Yellow Pages - you need to make contacts WITHIN the business.
Getting Discovered...?
Definitely put some examples of what you could do on youtube, it will help quite a bit if you put a way to contact you.
Reply:If you are on the %26quot;shy side%26quot; then what in the world are you doing in PERFORMING ARTS... when the emphasis is on the word PERFORMING... and even if you COULD get hired from an youtube demo... WHICH YOU CAN%26#039;T AND WON%26#039;T... then how would you PERFORM in front of an audience?
Just because your mother tells you what a great dancer you are, or you have some image of how well you can dance while jumping around in your basement... doesn%26#039;t mean you can cut it in a dog eat dog field like performing arts.
It today%26#039;s PERFORMING ARTS WORLD.. you have to be GOOD... and that means hours and hours of practice and using a TEACHER or a COACH...
Being cute can get you an audition... but after that IT TAKES TALENT if you want to last more than 10 seconds before you hear %26quot;THANK YOU..... NEXT%26quot;

Oh I Have Been There They Are Amazing
Im slowwwwly learning the basics of guitar.?
What is a good way to learn the strings?
Like the fat one is the 6th string- E
Then A, D, G, B, E.
Like isnt there a thing like : %26quot;Every Good Boy Does Good?%26quot;
I dont even remeber what that goes with- but I didnt forget! haha
Im slowwwwly learning the basics of guitar.?
Every American Dog Growls Barks Eats
Im slowwwwly learning the basics of guitar.?
You%26#039;re thinking of %26quot;Every Good Boy Does Fine%26quot; (or Deserves Fudge)...the music notation sequence of the lined notes. The notes in between are F_A_C_E...easy enough to remember those!
Anyway, to answer your questions, I use %26quot;Everything Aaron Does Gets Better Everyday%26quot; I made up the name Aaron and it stuck, I guess you could use Adam or Alex, or just make up your own anagram.
Reply:When I was taking lessons, my teacher told me to remember the strings by: %26quot;Every Athlete Does Good Before Events%26quot;.
But after awhile, you%26#039;ll just remember it as E-A-D-G-B-E. At least I do, and it%26#039;s easy :).
Good luck with learning guitar, by the way, and practice a lot!
Reply:You are in the right path by not %26quot;rushing%26quot; and taking your time to learn the strings of the guitar.
As you have indicated, the Open Strings of the guitar are from high -1st string to Lowest 6th string
Naming the guitar strings from Skinny to the Fat - moving from High to Low Tone
The Notes Are: E B G D A E
From Each Open String Each Fret of The Fret Board Represents 1/2 Tone Higher until you reach
the 12th Fret which then complete a full chromatic
octave of the Open string. So that the 12th fret are
a repeat of the open notes of E B G D A E but a %26quot;chromatic%26quot; octave higher.
Chromatic scales are all the notes including the %26quot;sharps%26quot; and %26quot;flats%26quot; so it will take you twelve frets to repeat the Open string note at a higer tone.
Music for Guitar is almost always written on the
G Clef (Treble Clef) within the Five lines and Four spaces. Adding ledger lines above and below for notes above and below the staff when necessary.
The Line Notes on the Treble (G) clef are
(from bottom to Top)
%26quot;E%26quot;very %26quot;G%26quot;ood %26quot;B%26quot;oy %26quot;D%26quot;oes %26quot;F%26quot;ine
The Spaces Notes are (from bottom to top)
%26quot;F%26quot; %26quot;A%26quot; %26quot;C%26quot; %26quot;E%26quot;
If you learn to recognize notes in the treble clef you will be able to figure out the notes above and below the staff by remembering this simple rule:
Example: The note E is on the 1st line of the staff
then the next %26quot;E%26quot; can be found on a SPACE above for a higher tone %26quot;E%26quot; or a SPACE below for a lower tone %26quot;E%26quot;(An 8ve higher or lower).
This rule applies to all the notes.
If you recognize any note on a line the same note (not tone)must be on a space above and below an 8ve apart.
If you recognize any note on a space the same note (not tone) will be on a line above and below

I hope this will help you get started.

It is for a concerto competition. I would need the full orchestra and piano arrangments available in sheet music.
Guitar learning part 2...?
OK, From what I%26#039;ve learned from my first question, it%26#039;s obvious that good guitar players are those who practice a lot....But after I play for 45 minutes or so the fingers of my left hand are too sore to continue. I%26#039;ve played off and on for years and I still get the sore fingers...
I play an acoustic guitar, which I know requires more finger pressure than an electric.
My question is...If I keep at it should I eventually expect to build up callouses such that I can practice without discomfort for more than 30-45 minutes at a time?
Guitar learning part 2...?
If you%26#039;ve played off and on for years you should have very thick callouses.....some of my students after six months have very good callouses.....maybe your not pressing hard enough.....and hour a day should do just fine and should give you nice callouses by now. By now you should be able to play without pain, maybe your not holding the guitar correctly, is your thumb in the middle of the back of the neck ????? Are your fingers perpendicular to the finger board ???? Try changing the gauge of your strings.....all of my students say that after about six months they have nice callouses and that their fingers don%26#039;t hurt like they did the first three months.....I%26#039;m not understanding why your fingers still hurt after years of playing unless your playing incorrectly for hours every day......somethings wrong, but it%26#039;s hard to tell what unless I saw you play.....are you still in school ? Is there a music teacher that you could talk to......or even someone who%26#039;s been playing for a long time, play for then maybe they can tell you what%26#039;s wrong.....sorry that I couldn%26#039;t help any more then this....but I would have to see you to tell what%26#039;s wrong......If you can%26#039;t consult a teacher or you don%26#039;t know someone who plays go to the Guitar Center they have professionals there who can maybe advise you as to what the problem is !!!!!!! Good luck !!!!!!!!
Guitar learning part 2...?
Yes, regular daily play will create hard callouses that will protect your fingers from hurting.
Reply:you will get use to it after a while
Reply:yes and start using a pluck
Reply:Hi Shannon
The problem is that your guitar action is too high and for that reason, you have problem building callouses.
What you need to do is put light gauge string or extra light . This will relieve some pressure on the guitar neck.. The neck will tend to straighten itself which will also lower the action. The reason is because, by putting light gauge or extra light gauge string, you are removing about 100 lbs of tension on the fingerboard.
This should make it easy for you to practice longer and perform better as well.
Good Luck !!! Let me know hot it turns out.

Beethoven or mozart?
who do you like better and who do you think is actually better (ex. skill, talent, creativity, feeling, etc)
Beethoven or mozart?
I definitely prefer Beethoven over Mozart, but I have a general preference toward Romantic composers (that is, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff). I find that Beethoven%26#039;s music is extremely dynamic and powerful, whereas Mozart%26#039;s can drag on and be very, very repetitive -- though this may have been influenced by the rigidity of musical convention during his lifetime. Needless to say, I feel that some of Mozart%26#039;s works were truly beautiful and powerful even next to Beethoven%26#039;s (i.e. the Requiem, his operas), and that he certainly is more prolific and diverse than Beethoven.
Beethoven, though mainly limiting himself to compositions for piano, orchestra, and string ensemble (mainly piano sonatas and bagatelles, concerti and symphonies, quartets, etc), was certainly the complete master of the forms he did compose in; I wouldn%26#039;t expect many people to argue that Beethoven%26#039;s Symphonies Nos. 3, 5, 7, 9 are any less prodigious in composition or powerful in emotion than the greatest symphonic work of any other composer, past or present. Likewise, Beethoven is the undisputed master of the piano sonata, having explored all of the diverse possibilities therein.
A summary in terms of your criteria: I believe that Mozart and Beethoven are both amazingly skilled, extremely talented, and very prolific and creative. The main distinction I make between Beethoven and Mozart is that Beethoven had the strength and the passion to express his complete emotions through music, effectively starting the emotionally charged early Romantic musical era. Similarly, Beethoven had the drive and the creativity to continue composing even after losing his hearing which, though not necessarily indicative of the quality of his music, certainly adds to the respect he deserves as an individual and an artist.
That being said, I don%26#039;t expect people to agree with one another regarding this subject, but I have presented the information that makes me respect Beethoven above other great composers such as Mozart, and why many people believe Beethoven to be the most musically influential composer ever to have lived.

Drums and guitar which one is harder?
between drum and guitar which one is harder to play and learn?
Drums and guitar which one is harder?
I think coordination needed to learn drums is harder than that needed for guitar by far.
Also it%26#039;s hard to find places where you can play drums, practice and rock out. Guitar is ok almost anywhere.
Drums and guitar which one is harder?
If your just going to play chords on the guitar then I%26#039;d say the drums, but if your going to play what I teach classical , acoustic, music notation, theory, and finger style .....then I%26#039;d say the guitar !!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:you would have to pit them deciding which genra of music they are the most complicated at. so make a list of them and decide which is harder.
thats the best i can do to help you with this question.
genra and technique
are those the same things.... i didnt think so but maybe.
Reply:Guitar by far but both take a lot of skill.
Reply:well drums, u obviously have to hit the drums with two sticks(looks so easy butisnt, cause u have to hit them realy realy fast and yes u muck p alot)
guitar.... well u kinda have to pluck the strings with ur fingers which will hurt.... but ull get used to in a while....
i dunno which one is harder?..... i think drums.
Reply:depending on if u want to march or play in a band...i think guitar because u have to remember where to put your hand and drum u have to set the beat......so depenting on what and where u r playing.
Reply:Drums is hard because you need to remember which drums and cymbals to hit, whilst keeping a beat. Guitar can be just as hard though, or harder, getting frets right without looking and singing at the same time. Also, if you learn classical/acoustic guitar it is harder because you have lots of fingering.
Reply:I say its the drums because you need coordination. I am a drummer myself and all the people that I have tried to teach just can%26#039;t play them because they can%26#039;t keep a steady rhythm on the hi-hats once they try to use the bass drum...lol...They can%26#039;t play a beat using the hi-hats.Then again, when I try to pick up a guitar and play it, I find it really hard..lol..I won%26#039;t get near a guitar anymore, I will just stick to drums! =]
Reply:well it depends on you. are you willing to put the effort, and practice in to just get a little better or are you the kind of person who likes to practice a little and hope to get better?
if you are willing to practice hard either one will be easy. i think guitar will be more rewarding and fun if you play for a long time. drums are fun and are a little harder to play at first butonce you understand how to play them it gets easier. in my opinion the drums after a while get boring and it gets harder to find something new, or a challenge. but the guitar always has something new to offer and you can always get better.
now if you dont have much time to practice or wont put in the effort i suggest drums. usually in a song the drums have a couple patterns that repeat them selfs. i think guitar would be much harder becuase to get better requires a lot more practice.
Overall i think the guitar is harder to play and learn, becuase of all the scales, and chords. also the really hard guitar solos.
i think the drums are easier becuase all you need is rhythm and the ability to count.( not like 1 2 3 4, more like keeping time).
But then everyone has a different opinion, it could be totally different for you
Reply:I%26#039;ve played both and I%26#039;d say the guitar is harder to learn and play.
Reply:Both are hard although, guitar is easiest to learn.
The problem, is that, it will take you more than one listen to master the guitar. Their are so many variation and techniques. On drums, you have to use independence + all your limbs. But at least, you don%26#039;t have to worry if you are playing out of tune or anythinh. You just have to worry about timing and creativity. On the guitar, you have to worry about this plus playing on the correct key and play in tune.
Reply:I play drums and I find it quite easy, but I think that%26#039;s because I played another musical instrument before so I got used to rhythm and how a song is made up.
It depends on how good your coordination is really
My brother plays guitar and he really enjoys it, but a lot of my friends have quit because they found it too hard

My brother plays guitar and he really enjoys it, but a lot of my friends have quit because they found it too hard

is there anything on the web that%26#039;ll teach me?

The Real Book 6th edition has latin tunes in it that you can both look at the chart, then listen to what the player is doing (you%26#039;ll need to get a recording). But the chart shows you the chords and the melody and listening informs you what to do for the style.
Reply:FIRST of all... you need to be able to read music and SECONDLY.. you need to use a METRONOME.... you do have a METRONOME... right? because you are never going to play those kinds of rhythms if you don%26#039;t use a metronome to learn the patterns
OH and the THIRD THING... is HIRE A TEACHER... if you think you can become a good guitar player for FREE off the internet... then you are wasting your time
Reply:Listen to Antonios Carlos Jobim...He is the best on this. Also, you have to know the follwing chords for any of that type of music.
min7b5, maj 7, min +maj7, min9, min11, 13th etc...
Google latin music or the musicoc Jobim... You will be set once you understand what he is doing.

Rate the Taylor GS4e-Ltd?
I%26#039;m thinking of buying one fro a little under $1500. Is it as a good a guitar as I think it is? Is it a good price?
Rate the Taylor GS4e-Ltd?
try it first so you can decide if you%26#039;ll buy it.
Rate the Taylor GS4e-Ltd?
if it%26#039;s a Taylor and it%26#039;s not 3 grand, it%26#039;s a good deal my friend.
Reply:It doesn%26#039;t matter if it%26#039;s free... NEVER buy a guitar that you DON%26#039;T PLAY FIRST... and that is NEVER. However... a Taylor GS4E-LTD for $1,500 is about the right price and well worth the money... especially for a limited edition... but look at the KOA model before you buy anything else Taylor
Reply:In general, Taylor%26#039;s Grand symphony models (that%26#039;s what the %26quot;GS%26quot; stands for) are great guitars and that%26#039;s a good price. But as the other responders pointed out, either try it first or make sure you can send it back for a full refund if you don%26#039;t like it.
