Beethoven or mozart?

who do you like better and who do you think is actually better (ex. skill, talent, creativity, feeling, etc)
Beethoven or mozart?
I definitely prefer Beethoven over Mozart, but I have a general preference toward Romantic composers (that is, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff). I find that Beethoven%26#039;s music is extremely dynamic and powerful, whereas Mozart%26#039;s can drag on and be very, very repetitive -- though this may have been influenced by the rigidity of musical convention during his lifetime. Needless to say, I feel that some of Mozart%26#039;s works were truly beautiful and powerful even next to Beethoven%26#039;s (i.e. the Requiem, his operas), and that he certainly is more prolific and diverse than Beethoven.

Beethoven, though mainly limiting himself to compositions for piano, orchestra, and string ensemble (mainly piano sonatas and bagatelles, concerti and symphonies, quartets, etc), was certainly the complete master of the forms he did compose in; I wouldn%26#039;t expect many people to argue that Beethoven%26#039;s Symphonies Nos. 3, 5, 7, 9 are any less prodigious in composition or powerful in emotion than the greatest symphonic work of any other composer, past or present. Likewise, Beethoven is the undisputed master of the piano sonata, having explored all of the diverse possibilities therein.

A summary in terms of your criteria: I believe that Mozart and Beethoven are both amazingly skilled, extremely talented, and very prolific and creative. The main distinction I make between Beethoven and Mozart is that Beethoven had the strength and the passion to express his complete emotions through music, effectively starting the emotionally charged early Romantic musical era. Similarly, Beethoven had the drive and the creativity to continue composing even after losing his hearing which, though not necessarily indicative of the quality of his music, certainly adds to the respect he deserves as an individual and an artist.

That being said, I don%26#039;t expect people to agree with one another regarding this subject, but I have presented the information that makes me respect Beethoven above other great composers such as Mozart, and why many people believe Beethoven to be the most musically influential composer ever to have lived.

Reply:Beethoven! godfather of the romantic era!

his thematic devises, use of chromaticism, development of thematic material, programmatic ideals all were the frontrunners of all the masters that composed in the romantic era!
Reply:I think Mozart was better, but I prefer Beethoven because of two pieces: Moonlight Sonata and Fur Elise.
